Mark out your plot and scrape off the top layer of soil to between 50mm and
100mm deep. Make sure the ground is level and cover the plot with a weed
preventing membrane.

Place the river cobbles all around the perimeter to form a border. |
Next form the central path that runs corner to corner with the cornish
cobbles and the river cobbles. These can be set into mortar to create a
permanent path which will be easier to maintain and walk on, although they
can of course be left loose or set into a sand bed.
Put the remaining river cobbles in place to complete the rough path borders
and add any extra stones as required. Set the large terracotta pots in place
and plant the Japanese maples into them.
Place the remaining plants into position by cutting crossed slits in the weed
prevention membrane, digging them in and watering well.
Spread the Scottish pebbles all around the plants to complete the areas
either side of the main path.
Finally set the remaining river cobbles into the Scottish pebbles as desired.
